Planning Trip to United Arab Emirates?
When traveling to the UAE, there are several things you should keep in mind to ensure a smooth and enjoyable trip. Here are a few tips that might help:
01
Visa & Documents
Australian passport holders can enter the UAE visa-free for up to 30 days. Ensure your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your intended stay.
02
Currency Exchange
It’s always helpful to carry some UAE Dirhams (AED). Use RedRate, which has locations across Australia, to get the best AUD→AED exchange rates before you leave.
03
Tipping
Tipping is not mandatory in the UAE, as service charges are often included in bills. However, leaving a small tip for exceptional service is appreciated.
04
Transport
In cities, public transport like buses, metros, and taxis is available. For intercity travel, domestic flights and long-distance buses are common options.
05
Stay Connected
Get a local SIM card from providers like Etisalat or du at the airport or retail stores for affordable data and nationwide coverage.
The United Arab Emirates Dirham (symbol: د.إ; currency code: AED) is the official currency of the UAE, issued and regulated by the Central Bank of the UAE. It is subdivided into 100 fils. Coins in circulation include 25 fils, 50 fils, and 1 dirham; banknotes are issued in denominations of 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500, and 1,000 dirhams. Introduced on 19 May 1973, the dirham replaced the Qatari and Dubai riyal at par. Since 1997, the dirham has been pegged to the US dollar at a fixed rate of 1 USD = 3.6725 AED, ensuring currency stability. Today, travelers often monitor the AUD→AED rate when planning visits to places like Dubai, Abu Dhabi, or the desert landscapes—and balance cash and digital payments for local experiences.
